Wyoming Game and Fish talks habitat with high schoolers for Rock Lake

Wyoming Game and Fish Department biologist Steve Gale talks to high school students about fish habitat and the project at Rock Lake.

Wheatland High School students are getting hands-on with fisheries habitat conservation. Wyoming Game and Fish Department Aquatic Habitat Biologist Steve Gale recently spoke with about 40 sophomore biology students about the Rock Lake Habitat Enhancement Project. This project is funded by Bass Pro Shops in partnership with the RFHP. Friends of Reservoirs member, The Wyldlife Fund, is collaborating with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department for this project.

These students discussed the evaluation of the bass population and habitat that led to this project. Next fall semester, when these students are juniors, they’ll help assemble and deploy habitat structures into Rock Lake—contributing directly to improving the fishery.
