Some fish-related highlights..
- Eligible applicants include States, metropolitan planning organizations (MPO), local governments, federally recognized Indian Tribes, public transportation agencies, port authorities, and Federal Land Managing Agencies (FLMA) when applying jointly with a State or group of States
- This opportunity will result in the distribution of up to $787 million in Fiscal Years (FYs) 2024 through 2026 funding. Of this amount, up to $79 million is available for Planning Grants; up to $551 million is available for Resilience Improvement Grants; up to $79 million is available for Community Resilience and Evacuation Route Grants; and up to $79 million is available for At-Risk Coastal Infrastructure Grants.
- 20% match requirement. Tribes exempt.
- A minimum of 25% of the funding is supposed to go to projects in rural areas. Much of the projects are aimed at reducing hazards from flooding and improving roads.
- System Resilience: A PROTECT Competitive Grant may include the use of natural infrastructure or the construction or modification of storm surge, flood protection, or aquatic ecosystem restoration elements functionally connected to a transportation improvement, such as:
- Increasing marsh health and total area adjacent to a highway right-of-way to promote additional flood storage;
- Upgrades to and installing of culverts designed to withstand 100-year flood events
